Sunday Drive- Looking for Waupoos

May 26th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 6 Comments

Be very quite, we are looking for wild rabbit. Have you seen Waupoos?

Waupoos is an Indian word for “Wild Rabbit”.

Yesterday we went on our usual Sunday drive. Our destination spot was the Rose House Museum. The house was built in 1804 and was originally the home of Peter Rose.

It is located in the town of Waupoos. We didn’t quite make it to the museum though. The reason being that we couldn’t find Waupoos. (The town not wild rabbit.)

We ended up in Picton and took the Glenora Ferry, across to Adolphustown.

Once in Adolphustown we of course had to find our way back home which we eventually did.

Amusing day it was.

After 4 long hours in a mini van we needed food so out of desperation to fill our growling stomachs, we stopped at a McDonalds.

Who wants to cook dinner after a long drive?

Here are some photos I took on our road trip.

naked statue

I took this photo outside of Mohawk Liquidation in Shanonville. Who puts a statue of a naked man outside of a liquidation/ variety store?

I never made it to Waupoos, but I had a fun day nonetheless.

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

LOL, you got so excited when we saw that statue and you had to take a picture of it considering we did not get a lot of photos. Other then that it was a fun day.

Again you make a simple road trip into a most interesting experience. I figure the naked man outside a store might be a good traffic grabber for the store—??

PS, I got the yellow out of that particular blog you pointed out.

    Hello Rose,

I am sorry you did not find Waupoos.
I work at Del-Gatto Winery in Waupoos, where at some point it is also called |North Marysburg, where you can find not only Del-Gatto, but also the Rose Museum, Waupoos Winery, County Cider and 5th Town Artisan Cheese, so you see
there’s lots there to see. Quite a view by following County Rd. 8. At the end of Picton, keep right and instead of taking the fork left which you took to get to the ferry, keep right on Union St. which then turns into County Rd.8
Follow this road for several kilometers. You will
pass several crossroads, one leading to Black River Cheese, but don’t go there just yet. Keep on the Cty Rd 8. You will pass North Mary’sburg Pub (great food) then the 1st Winery will be Waupoos, then 3-4 kilometers later, on left up a small hill is County Cider, once there, come back down hill, left of Cty Rd 8, next stop (if you wish) LaLa Land Gallery, then
Rose Museum then us Del-Gatto then 5th town
Aritsan Cheese. Sure hope to see you on one of
    your Sunday drives.
    Michelle
