Happy 4h of July- National Country Music Day

“Stand straight, walk proud, have a little faith”- Garth Brooks

It’s July 4th and that means a day for Americans away from blogging to enjoy time with family and friends. I almost forgot that today was America’s 232nd Birthday. I would like to extend my wishes for a Happy Fourth of July to my American readership. Did you know that today is also independence from meat day? I guess American vegetarians will be grilling veggie burgers today. Whether you are eating a juicy hamburger, a sausage dog or enjoying your veggie burger I hope you have a wonderful day. Today is also ‘National Country Music Day.’ If there ever was a country song made for the 4th of July, God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood is it.

When it comes to country music, you either love it or you hate it. I happen to love it. In honor of Country Music day I thought I would list just a few of my all time favorite country songs.

There are some oldies in there.

“Cowboy Take Me Away” – Dixie Chicks
“Fishin’ In The Dark” – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
“He Thinks He’ll Keep Her” – Mary Chapin Carpenter
“Forever and Ever Amen” – Randy Travis
“Daddy’s Hands” – Holly Dunn
“I Love a Rainy Night” – Eddie Rabbitt
“Holes in the Floor of Heaven” – Steve Wariner
“I Hope You Dance” – Lee Ann Womack
“Always On My Mind” – Willie Nelson
“The Dance” – Garth Brooks
“Love Can Build a Bridge” – The Judds

I could go on forever. I grew up listening to country music. Songs like “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys” by Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings, Coward of the County by Kenny Rogers and “Rhinestone Cowboy” by Glen Campbell and “Walk On By” by Leroy Van Dyke. My parents were both huge fan of country music. In my tweens/teens I became a fan of the Oak Ridge Boys and Dolly Parton.

Let’s not forget “Harper Valley P.T.A.” I simply love this song. Harper Valley P.T.A was a one hit wonder that sold two million copies. Does anyone remember the “Harper Valley P.T.A” television show?

It’s officially ‘Fry an egg on the sidewalk day” too. Oatman Arizona held its 8th annual Sidewalk Egg Fry at noon today. Can you really fry an egg on a hot day?

Whatever day you are celebrating today I hope it’s a great one.

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?
