Drivers Rant- Bad Drivers- Speeders

July 27th, 2008 by Rose DesRochers · 4 Comments

I feel as though I need to rant about this topic. Of course some of my driving pet peeves include: People talking on their cell phones while driving and those who cut out in front of you. I don’t drive, but my husband drives. Recently I have seen a lot of drivers going way over the posted speed limit.

Many of these drivers have their children in the car. I just don’t get why people speed. These drivers continually risk their lives and the lives of others by speeding. In Ontario the speed limit is 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) on the highway.

Two weeks ago I noticed a woman driving with her new born baby in the back seat of the car. The car seat was not even strapped in, facing the wrong way and the woman was smoking. (Ontario banned smoking in cars with children under 16 present.)

Not only do drivers have a disrespect for speed limits, many have a disrespect for other drivers on the road.

On Thursday a car cut out in front of us and hubby had to swerve out of the way. Thankfully there were no cars coming in the second lane.

Yesterday we were on our way to pick up my son from work and a car stops on the overpath to the highway. You don’t stop your car on the overpath. This driver could of got us killed. Did I mention that it was really raining?

If you’re one of these crazy drivers, you’d better improve your driving skills or stay off the road.

And another thing! People who drive while talking on their cell phone scare me. For goodness sake will you please stay off your cell phone while driving. Ontario seriously needs a cell phone driving ban.

What’s your biggest driving pet peeve?

If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?

Love this post Rose, my pet peeve are drivers who feel they are so important they have to talk on the cell phone while driving, many a time people have almost run into me while on their cell.

I’ve almost been killed as a pedestrian by cell phone users , even though the handheld ones are (allegedly) banned in NYS. As for speeding: everything I’ve read indicates that going faster than 60 mph wastes gasoline. But I don’t expect them to get off the road; I think they’ve bought into the multitasking myth.

One of my biggest gripes is people turning left after the light has turned red. A teen did that here a couple of years ago, was in an accident, and her passenger was killed. The passenger was her grandmother.

Washington State has a ban on all handheld cell phones, but it’s a secondary offense. A cop has to cite the driver for another reason other than using a cell phone. I think the only exception is emergency calls. My biggest pet peeve is drivers who don’t pay attention to people in the crosswalks. On the flip side of that, my other big pet peeve is pedestrians who cross against the light on a really busy street. This happened one rainy night, and the people crossing the street were wearing dark clothing. We saw them just in time, but they yelled and screamed at us all the same.
