Scary Movies for Halloween

October 21st, 2009 by Rose DesRochers · 3 Comments

My husband and I rented “The last house on the left” last weekend. It was a good movie, but it could have done without the graphic rape scene.

I have never seen a horror movie that has really scared me. Does anyone have any recommendations? Tell me a must see horror movie.

Here is a list of my favorite horror movies of all times and just in time for Halloween.

The Amityville Horror

The Amityville Horror – Based on a bestselling, allegedly nonfiction book about haunted goings-on in a Long Island house.

Poltergeist

Poltergeist – a classic. It feels so strange saying that Poltergeist is a classic considering it is a film of the 80’s. (Showing my age.)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre – “Inspired by a true story and the classic 1974 film. A group of teenagers take a detour from a road trip and what happens next is beyond anyone’s darkest fears and raw nightmares.”

Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hallow, though I didn’t personally find it all that scary. Sleepy Hallow is a version of the classic tale of horror.

Stir of Echoes

Stir of Echoes” starring Kevin Bacon. This movie kept me on the edge of my seat.

I’m really looking forward to renting “Drag me to Hell” this weekend. I likely won’t find it scary either.

Looking for a good movie to watch this Halloween season? Amazon Video On Demand has hundreds of scary movies and shows available to watch now on your computer or TV, plus discounts and deals.

I saw “Paranormal Activity” last weekend, and I recommend it. I’m not a big fan of horror movies, but this one is really good.

None actually come to mind, but I know the type that make me jump are the ones that have scenes full of suspense with things popping out at you, usually with a huge bang or something, when you’re not expecting it.

My personal favorite is From Hell. Not really a horror movie, but there are a few moments that make me jump.

A friend of mine saw Paranormal Activity and said he didn’t sleep for days. I guess it’s a horror movie that really gets under your skin and into your head. I really like the movies that make you think.

Again, not really a ‘horror’ movie, but Donnie Darko is fantastic. I’m creeped out by full face masks, so the giant rabbit in the movie really kind of freaks me out. Donnie Darko is one of those movies that make you think after the credits finish rolling.
