#blogchat is a blogging conversation that takes place every week on Twitter. The chat was started by @MackCollier to discuss blogging.
While people can post to the hashtag #blogchat at any time, the actual chat is Sunday night beginning at 8pm Central.
If you have ever participated in blogchat then you know that sometimes it can be hard to keep up.
For those who have never participated in a Twitter chat, chatting on Twitter is similar to chatting in a chat room. It’s a topic-driven conversation happening in real time that moves by very quickly.
Following the conversation on blogchat with Twitter’s main page is too difficult. By the time you have refreshed the page and used the hashtag #blogchat, you have missed half of the conversation.
The best way to follow #blogchat or any chat in Twitter is to use a client like Tweetchat which automatically adds the blogchat # hashtag for you.
If you have never participated in #blogchat before I invite you to join the conversation this Sunday. Don’t worry if you have a hard time keeping up though. Blogchat provides bloggers with an opportunity to meet new people, and pick up some tips on blogging. I hope to see you there.
If you don’t want to join the conversation drop by wthashtag.com/Blogchat and see for yourself just what it is about.
What have you learned from #blogchat? Do you participate in any other Twitter chats? What client do you use to follow Twitter chats?
If you liked this post, why not buy me a coffee?
I think I’ll go this Sunday. It drives me crazy though trying to follow.

Did you miss it Carl?

In Hootsuite you can save any search as a stream. I’ve now saved #blogchat so all I have to do now is figure out what 8pm Central is in my local timezone. As long as it doesn’t work out to be in the unholy wee hours of the morning, maybe I’ll see you there. 🙂

That’s cool. I didn’t know that you could do that. Are you in the UK or Australia?

OK, I checked it out. Only took me a couple of minutes to realise that it is a complete waste of time. There are two main problems with it. First, there is too much coming into the stream to keep up with, even if you refresh every few seconds. This doesn’t matter in your normal “home” feed because you only look at 0.0001% of it anyway. The other problem is that nobody participating will “reply” when responding to someone which makes it impossible to follow any conversation thread.
I have plenty of other things I can waste my time on.

I’m sorry that your experience with #blogchat wasn’t a positive one. I don’t see where you joined tonight though?

I replied to this on Twitter, but for the benefit of anyone reading this that isn’t following you there, I’ll repeat myself.
There is nothing to join. It is simply the normal Twitter stream. There is no “chat room”. To participate, all that is needed is to add the appropriate hashtag to your tweet. To see what the other participants are saying, you simply watch for that hashtag. Any half-decent Twitter client will let you filter and search by hashtag so you don’t even need any specialist software (beyond what you are already using).

You join in the conversation by tweeting the participants. How can you say that nobody replies when you didn’t even talk to anyone? If you are going based on your ten min of lurking one would see there was a lot of replying taking place and some weeks blogchat can be a wealth of information depending on the topic. Here is tonight’s chat transcript for blogchat for those interested. Transcript from September 6, 2010 to September 6, 2010
You’ll see lots of replying going on if you read the transcript.

Missed it last night. I will try to remember for next week. I usually don’t have a heck of a lot going on Sunday evenings anyway.
